Prescot Cables gained a hard earned point in their Unibond Premier Division clash at Ashton United on New Year's Day. Visiting keeper Richie Mottram kept Prescot in the game with two excellent saves from Ashton United corner kicks. The visitors weathered the home side's storm and started putting some neat passing moves together. On 30 minutes Prescot striker Eamonn Price was bundled over in the Ashton penalty area allowing penalty expert Tommy Moore to deservedly level the scores with a spot kick.
A minute into the second half a good move by Prescot Cables resulted in Ryan Wade hammering the visitors into the lead with a crisp far post finish from six yards. On 52 minutes the linesman awarded the home side a controversial penalty giving Ashton United's Billy McCartney the chance to equalise from the spot.
Late pressure from Prescot almost produced a last gasp winner as Karl Connolly headed inches over the Ashton bar and Tom Moore's shot was scrambled off the Ashton line.
