Errors in match reports: When Cables are attacking I am either focussing my camera to try to get a good action shot for the website or trying to stop my notebook and pen from falling on the floor! Not only that, but I have the world's worst memory for names and faces! With these factors to take into account it is inevitable that there will sometimes be mistakes in reports (e.g. the wrong player credited as having put in the cross that led to the goal). I email my reports to the non-league paper early Saturday evening (home matches only) then put them on the website and email them to the programme editor. If you spot a mistake it will probably be too late for the NLP, but if you email me I will correct any mistakes on the website version and arrange for the corrected version to be in the next match programme.

Cables 0 Buxton 1

A first-half stoppage-time goal gave Buxton the lead against the run of play.

The early exchanges made a mockery of the clubs' respective league positions as the home side matched the visitors in every aspect.

In the tenth minute there was some good defending by Buxton's Paul Walker, whose pace came in very useful. Four minutes later it was Cables' turn to come close when Mike O'Donnell crossed to the head of Thomas Moore. Scott Hartley in Buxton's goal did well to save the header.

Goalmouth action was strongly in evidence at both ends of the pitch: for the visitors, James Turley forced a good save out of Cables' goalkeeper Zak Hibbert, and Tony Lennon had a header tipped out for a corner. For the home side, Colin Flood had a good free kick saved by Hartley.

With 33 minutes on the clock, Cables were awarded a penalty for handball. Thomas Moore stepped up to take the kick but Hartley managed to guess which way the ball was going and saved the shot. Moore tried to make amends for his missed penalty three minutes later when he headed the ball goalwards from Colin Flood's free kick. Unfortunately for Cables, the ball went over the bar.

With almost two minutes of stoppage time on the clock, Buxton were awarded a free kick on the left, 35 yards out. Scott Maxfield crossed the ball to captain Terry Bowker who headed the visitors into a 1-0 half-time lead.

Most of the early second-half action belonged to Cabes as they tried to pull level. The closest they came to a goal was after 63 minutes when a series of throw-ins ended with O'Donnell shooting over the bar.

The home supporters had bucked up with the introduction of Ryan Wade after 57 minutes, and he was unlucky not to score after 68 minutes when his shot was saved.

The only other goal-scoring opportunity in the match also fell to a Cables' substitute: Steve Johnson shot over the bar after 78 minutes. Final score Cables 0 Buxton 1.
