Errors in match reports: When Cables are attacking I am either focussing my camera to try to get a good action shot for the website or trying to stop my notebook and pen from falling on the floor! Not only that, but I have the world's worst memory for names and faces! With these factors to take into account it is inevitable that there will sometimes be mistakes in reports (e.g. the wrong player credited as having put in the cross that led to the goal). I email my reports to the non-league paper early Saturday evening (home matches only) then put them on the website and email them to the programme editor. If you spot a mistake it will probably be too late for the NLP, but if you email me I will correct any mistakes on the website version and arrange for the corrected version to be in the next match programme.

Cables 1 Eastwood Town 0

A poacher's goal by Sam McNutt gave the home side vicory in this first ever meeting between the two sides.

Lindon Meikle looked dangerous for the visitors after three minutes when he broke free in Cables' penalty area. Richie Mottram did well to narrow the angle and leave Meikle with a near impossible task which prevented the visitors from taking an early lead.

After seven minutes Vinnie Freeman took a throw in on the left. The ball went to Shaun Tierney who shot wide. The action then switched to the opposite end of the pitch where Matt Rhead shot wide.

There were fourteen minutes on the clock when Tierney put the ball through to Ryan Wade who was dispossessed by Daniel Fletcher. Fletcher played the ball up the field where it found Paul Mitchell who shot wide.

Cables began to control the game with a series of throw ins, but Eastwood looked most like scoring when Meikle was through on goal after 40 minutes with only the goalkeeper to beat. To the amazement of everyone in the ground, he shot over the bar when it seemed easier to score.

A minute later there was a mix up in the Eastwood defence. Two defenders and the goalkeeper each seemed to be waiting for someone else to play the ball: Sam McNutt obliged by kicking it into the net to give Cables a 1-0 lead.

The second half was very similar to the first with both sides coming close but never really threatening. Rhead had a shot saved for the visitors after 52 minutes and McNutt shot wide for the home side after 63.

There were 74 minutes on the clock when Deon Meilkle shot over for Eastwood from 30 yards. But the remaining chances of the match fell to Cables with Thomas Moore shooting wide after 83 minutes and Wade after 87. Final score Cables 1 Eastwood 0.
