Errors in match reports: When Cables are attacking I am either focussing my camera to try to get a good action shot for the website or trying to stop my notebook and pen from falling on the floor! Not only that, but I have the world's worst memory for names and faces! With these factors to take into account it is inevitable that there will sometimes be mistakes in reports (e.g. the wrong player credited as having put in the cross that led to the goal). I email my reports to the non-league paper early Saturday evening (home matches only) then put them on the website and email them to the programme editor. If you spot a mistake it will probably be too late for the NLP, but if you email me I will correct any mistakes on the website version and arrange for the corrected version to be in the next match programme.

Cables 1 Fleetwood Town 3

Fleetwood showed why they are riding high in the league as they swept aside a Cables team that never posed a serious threat.

The visitors were on the attack from the start, but Gavin Lynch and Thomas Moore for Cables both defended well and prevented Fleetwood from taking an early lead.

After 24 minutes Fleetwood had a free kick from the right just outside the penalty area but Jez Fitzgerald's shot was easily claimed by Richie Mottram, who was staking his claim for yet another man of the match award.

Cables' best chances of the first half came within three minutes of each other when the home side were given free kicks 35 yards from goal on the left-hand side. Anthony Bowden took both kicks but put them too close to Danny Hurst in Fleetwood's goal. Half-time score Cables 0 Fleetwood 0.

The opening stages of the second half belonged to Fleetwood and it was no surprise when they took the lead after 56 minutes, although Cables' supporters were disappointed by the nature of the goal: a penalty needlessly given away for handball. Richie Mottram went the right way for Jamie Milligan's kick but it was too close to the corner for him to reach it.

Nine minutes later Fleetwood's lead was doubled after Thomas Moore tripped Phil Denney when the latter was clear on goal. Moore was shown the red card and Milligan scored his second penalty of the night.

Cables had not looked like scoring all night and the home supporters were settling for defeat when they were handed a lifeline by Bowden's superb 30 yard shot after 81 minutes which made the score Cables 1 Fleetwood 2. But their dreams of salvaging a draw were short lived: a mix-up in the Cables defence in stoppage time left Alex Taylor with an open goal to make the final score Cables 1 Fleetwood Town 3.
