Errors in match reports: When Cables are attacking I am either focussing my camera to try to get a good action shot for the website or trying to stop my notebook and pen from falling on the floor! Not only that, but I have the world's worst memory for names and faces! With these factors to take into account it is inevitable that there will sometimes be mistakes in reports (e.g. the wrong player credited as having put in the cross that led to the goal). I email my reports to the non-league paper early Saturday evening (home matches only) then put them on the website and email them to the programme editor. If you spot a mistake it will probably be too late for the NLP, but if you email me I will correct any mistakes on the website version and arrange for the corrected version to be in the next match programme.

Cables 2 Frickley Athletic 3

FA Trophy 1st Qualifying Round 20th October 2007

Both sides took a break from their league woes for an outing in the FA Trophy.

There was very little goalmouth action during the first half and it came as a surprise when Jon Hood in Frickley's goal failed to hold Lee Smith's shot from just outside the penalty area to allow Cables to take the lead after 35 minutes.

The home side's lead was, however, only to last for three minutes. Danny Walsh slotted the ball through to Chris White who shot the ball into the net from close range to make the half-time score Cables 1 Frickley 1.

After 52 minutes a throw-in from the left found Ashley Flynn in space in the penalty area. His shot left Richie Mottram no chance and the visitors were suddenly in the lead.

Cables were given a lifeline after 81 minutes when Sam McNutt took a corner from the right. The ball found the head of Karl Bell who was unlucky to see the ball hit the bar. The Frickley defenders partially cleared the ball but it soon found its way back to Bell who kicked the ball into the net to make it 2-2.

But once again Cables' joy was short lived. With five minutes remaining Frickley were awarded a free kick in their own half. The ball found its way to Neil Redferan who shot his team into the second qualifying round of the trophy. Final score Cables 2 Frickley Athletic 3.

Man of the match: The committee of four nominated a total of three players: Lee Smith, Karl Connolly, and Richie Mottram. Mottram wins the award with two votes to the others' one each.
