The third game in eight days between these two teams proved to be as tight as the first two, with only one game separating them.
Disaster nearly struck for Cables afer six minutes when Simon Sturdy crossed from the left. The ball struck Eamonn Price and ricocheted goalwards but Craig Bryan in the Cables goal cleared the danger. The ball found its way to Guiseley's half and Thomas Moore was unlucky to see his shot go over the bar.
Two minutes later Bryan saved Cables again when John Swift crossed from the right to Rob Pell. Bryan did well to tip the ball out for a corner on the left.
After 20 minutes James Hanson, believed to be offside by many of the home supporters, had a shot parried by Bryan to the feet of Dominic Krief who shot over the bar. Seven minutes later Hanson received a cross from John Swift and headed into the arms of Bryan.
Cables had an attack after 33 minutes when Darren Byers and Thomas Moore linked well down the left hand side of the pitch but the move broke down after some good defensive work by the visitors.
The final goalmouth action of the half was for Guiseley when Pell had a shot saved. By this stage there was already talk of Craig Bryan being given the man of the match award. Half-time Cables 0 Guiseley 0.
The second half was only two minutes old when Hanson received the ball on the edge of the penalty area. His shot went past Bryan, and Cables' supporters breathed a sigh of relief when the ball hit the bar, only to be doomed to disappointment as it bounced into the net. Cables 0 Guiseley 1.
The goal boosted Guiseley's confidence and they were unlucky not to double their lead three minutes later when Hanson passed to Mark Bett whose close-range shot was saved.
After 57 minutes Andy Gray decided that fresh legs were called for: Karl Connolly came on for Byers and Gavin Lynch for Anthony Bowden. Connolly, the experienced ex-pro, certainly made a difference for the home side and was a thorn in the visitors' side for the remaining half hour. Yet it was still Guiseley who were creating most of the goalscoring opportunities. With only six minutes remaining a corner from the right found the head of Pell who headed over the bar.
Cables' best chance of levelling came with four minutes remaining when Eamonn Price crossed from the left only to see the ball drift across the face of goal without anyone managing to make contact with it.
The two final goalscoring opportunities fell to the opposing number 14s: Nathan Hay had a shot saved for the visitors after 89 minutes and Marvin Molyneux shot over the the home side after three minutes of stoppage time. Final score Cables 0 Guiseley 1.
