Errors in match reports: When Cables are attacking I am either focussing my camera to try to get a good action shot for the website or trying to stop my notebook and pen from falling on the floor! Not only that, but I have the world's worst memory for names and faces! With these factors to take into account it is inevitable that there will sometimes be mistakes in reports (e.g. the wrong player credited as having put in the cross that led to the goal). I email my reports to the non-league paper early Saturday evening (home matches only) then put them on the website and email them to the programme editor. If you spot a mistake it will probably be too late for the NLP, but if you email me I will correct any mistakes on the website version and arrange for the corrected version to be in the next match programme.

Cables 1 Ilkeston Town 1

A draw was probably the right result in this end-to-end match, with neither side really dominating.

Cables had the better of the opening exchanges with Thomas Moore taking a series of throw-ins on the right hand side. The second throw-in found Karl Connolly who flicked the ball on to Ryan Wade who was unlucky to see Ilkeston goalkeeper Paul Pettinger tip the ball out for a corner on the left.

Cables continued to put pressure on the visitors for the first fifteen minutes of the match, but the nearest they came to a goal was when Ryan Wade shot over after six minutes.

Richie Mottram in the Cables goal was deceived by a free-kick after sixteen minutes and was relieved to see Karl Bell clear the ball off the goal line.

Two minutes later Mottram safely gathered the ball from Lee Featherstone's cross from the left.

Ilkeston again came close after 24 minutes when Neil Ross headed wide after receiving a cross from the right. Six minutes later Ross put the ball through to Dougie Wade, but Mottram did an excellent job of narrowing the angle and Wade shot wide.

The breakthrough came for Ilkeston after 37 minutes. Featherstone crossed the ball from the left to the feet of Ross whose left-foot shot left Mottram with no chance. Cables 0 Ilkeston 1.

The second half was only seven minutes old when Sam McNutt was bundled to the ground in the penalty area. Thomas Moore took the spot kick and the score was now Cables 1 Ilkeston 1.

Towards the end of the game Cables began to stamp their authority, but it was too late to have an impact on the result: this was a game that seemed destined to be a draw from the opening minutes and it was only fair that it ended Cables 1 Ilkeston 1.
