Prescot Cables broke the spell of four consecutive 1-1 draws at Harrison Park and registered a rare win against Leek in the Unibond Premier Division.
It was looking as if Prescot were in for a torrid evening as Leek turned up the heat in the first period with striker Darren Alexander a major threat. A series of corners were proving very difficult for the Cables defence, only the brilliance of keeper Mottram keeping the goal in tact. A fortuitous offside decision by the officials kept the score goal-less at half time after Tickle had powered the ball into the net.
Cables were able to capitalise on this escape following the interval. The energy and holding skills of Eammon Price became more influential as Prescot used the full width of the pitch. Following consecutive corners the ball broke three times for Cables players. They all had attempts blocked, however, it was fourth time lucky as Byers bungled the ball past keeper Cooper in the 56th minute.
Leek almost equalised only to be denied by Mottram again and a shot from Alexander that cleared the goal. Near the end Briscoe's overhead kick scraped wide and Prescot managed to hold on for a well needed three points.
