Errors in match reports: When Cables are attacking I am either focussing my camera to try to get a good action shot for the website or trying to stop my notebook and pen from falling on the floor! Not only that, but I have the world's worst memory for names and faces! With these factors to take into account it is inevitable that there will sometimes be mistakes in reports (e.g. the wrong player credited as having put in the cross that led to the goal). I email my reports to the non-league paper early Saturday evening (home matches only) then put them on the website and email them to the programme editor. If you spot a mistake it will probably be too late for the NLP, but if you email me I will correct any mistakes on the website version and arrange for the corrected version to be in the next match programme.

Cables 1 Lincoln United 2

Saturday 25 August 2007

A disappointing Cables performance as they relinquished their unbeaten start to the season in the Unibond Premier Division. The first half saw Prescot with periods of dominance without capitalising. Eammon Price blasted the ball out the ground from ten yards as defenders closed him down.

Lincoln should have opened the scoring when Justin Jenkins prodded at the ball from 5 yards out as it looped underneath the bar that Cables scrambled away. The assistant referee deciding the ball had not crossed the line. Approaching the interval, the game seemed to have turned Prescot's way when Gary Walters elbowed Lee Smith. The referee deemed the offence was serious enough for a straight red card.

With Cables unable to take advantage of superior numbers, United opened the scoring when a Jenkins strike, following a penalty area scrummage, hit the upright and bounced into the net. Prescot equalised when substitute Moore battled through to the goal line having committed defenders. Darren Byers eventually received possession and he squeezed the ball over the line. From a dubious free kick, Lincoln substitute Brooks then produced a scintillating left footer that left keeper Mottram little chance.

The game concluded with heated exchanges on and off the pitch. Entertainment: ** out of 5

Man of the Match: Richie Mottram
