It was deja-vu for Ferriby as they were defeated by this score line on the first day last season.
Prescot could not have wished for a better start and gave hope to those who placed bets on Cables winning the league at 40/1.
Darren Byers first competitive match saw him produce the first attempt at goal as he tried his luck from 20 yards.
The home side started to dictate the game with a cross from the left found keeper Mottram flapping. The dangerous looking Bradshaw could not direct his shot as it sped across goal. No Ferriby players were able to connect with an open goal waiting. Most of the approach work came through Bradshaw as Ferriby began to find their players with long passes.
It was with some surprise that Prescot's no.10 opened the scoring. Recent signing from Marine Gavin Lynch, outpaced his marker. Price found a hole in the defence and unmarked his put away Lynch's cross in the 26th minute. Lynch also turned provider a couple of moments later when a move seemed to have broken down. The ball found its way to Price who got in front of a defender to steer the ball into the net - against the run of play. Stunned by this reversal, Ferriby allowed Cables to take over the game. Near the interval they should have reduced their arrears. There were a number of attempts to score as the ball bobbled around the Cables 6 yard area. Mottram finally dived on the ball to defuse the situation.
Moments into the second period, Price almost claimed his third after Byers persistence gave the Cables marksman an opportunity. Neil Allison took the ball of Price's foot as he was about to strike. In the 55th minute the result was sealed, when Byers blasted in a pass from McEwan. With Ferriby pressing forward the Prescot no.7 had chances to put the game totally out of reach. The first with a curling shot saved by Pecora, the second after skilful work by Price gifted Byers with a certain tap-in only for the ball to somehow be blocked.
Ferriby seemed certain to score themselves when the bounce of the ball favoured them. Chris Bolder, from 8 yards out, produced a point blank save from Mottram. The ever willing Price forced a foul on him in the 83rd minute. Marvin Molyneux stepped up for one of his specials. His drive was deflected into the net by Byers to cap a stunning victory against a fair side.
Man of the Match: Obvious candidates would be messrs Price and Byers. One could also have chosen keeper Richie Mottram who dealt with the aerial threat and pulled off a couple of outstanding saves. Having consulted the ecstatic supporters there was a consensus that whole team deserved the award.
