Errors in match reports: When Cables are attacking I am either focussing my camera to try to get a good action shot for the website or trying to stop my notebook and pen from falling on the floor! Not only that, but I have the world's worst memory for names and faces! With these factors to take into account it is inevitable that there will sometimes be mistakes in reports (e.g. the wrong player credited as having put in the cross that led to the goal). I email my reports to the non-league paper early Saturday evening (home matches only) then put them on the website and email them to the programme editor. If you spot a mistake it will probably be too late for the NLP, but if you email me I will correct any mistakes on the website version and arrange for the corrected version to be in the next match programme. Please note you will have to remove the words NOSPAM before you send the email.

Cables 1 Whitby Town 0

Cables gave themselves a valuable lifeline in this UniBond Premier Division match between two sides not yet clear of the drop.

The first half hour of the match was very tense with neither side wanting to give too much away. Tom Raw shot over for the visitors after nine minutes and four minutes later Cables' Eamonn Price was dispossessed by goalkeeper David Campbell, but there was little goalmouth action in the opening stages.

The game exploded to life for all the wrong reasons after half an hour. Cables' Liam Kennedy and Whitby's Matty Appleby went for a 50-50 ball which resulted in an unfortunate injury for the latter who had to be substituted. Some of the Whitby players appeared to believe that Kennedy's challenge had been less than fair and Tony Hackworth squared up to Kennedy and both players ended up being shown the yellow card. The vendetta continued and it was no great surprise that the two players were both shown the red card before the end of the half, albeit it in separate incidents.

The half-time score was Cables 0 Whitby 0: a score that would do neither side any favours but would be preferable to the visitors who were sitting above the drop zone before the match.

The sides got back to concentrating on football in the second half and Whitby came close after 48 and 51 minutes with chances for Brunskill and Karl Charlton respectively.

On the hour mark the home crowd let out an enormous roar of delight and relief as Eddie Taylor blasted the ball into the net from just outside the penalty area.

Whitby came close to pulling level eight minutes later when Charlton was unlucky to see his close range shot superbly tipped away by Zak Hibbert in the home side's goal.

The game ended Cables 1 Whitby 0, which leaves us with a fascinating finale to the season. The side in eleventh place is only two points above the relegation zone and could still go down.
