Errors in match reports: When Cables are attacking I am either focussing my camera to try to get a good action shot for the website or trying to stop my notebook and pen from falling on the floor! Not only that, but I have the world's worst memory for names and faces! With these factors to take into account it is inevitable that there will sometimes be mistakes in reports (e.g. the wrong player credited as having put in the cross that led to the goal). I email my reports to the non-league paper early Saturday evening (home matches only) then put them on the website and email them to the programme editor. If you spot a mistake it will probably be too late for the NLP, but if you email me I will correct any mistakes on the website version and arrange for the corrected version to be in the next match programme.

Witton Albion 1 Cables 2

Prescot set aside their indifferent league form to earn a deserved win in this FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round game. Thomas Moore headed just wide from a free kick in the opening minutes as Prescot started brightly. On eight minutes, Gavin Lynch made a great run into the box and found Eammon Price whose first time shot brought a stunning save from Jon Kennedy who recovered quickly enough to block a shot from Darren Byers following up on the rebound. Both sides produced some excellent passing football after that but goalmouth action was in short supply until Mark Peers brought a save from Richie Mottram on 31 minutes. Five minutes later Karl Bell had a header from a corner cleared off the line and this was quickly followed by a shot from Price that was deflected just past the post. It looked as if the half was going to end goalless but Prescot's defence was caught napping in the second minute of added time and Dean Crowe gave Witton an unjustified lead with a simple tap in. Despite that setback, Prescot continued to play controlled football in the second half and drew level on 60 minutes when Byers seized upon some hesitation in the home defence to fire past Kennedy. Substitute Marvin Molyneux was on the field for only three minutes before he drove a 30 yard free kick through the wall and into net to put Prescot ahead on 80 minutes. Richie Mottram ensured Prescot progressed to the next round with a fine save at the foot of the post from Alex Brown on 85 minutes which was Prescot's only scare in the closing stages.
